    The Mullivaikkal Muttram has come into shape through contributions of sculptors and artists from far and wide, The sculptures have been fashioned based on the line drawings rendered by artist Veera Santhanam and have been carved out by Mamallapuram Sthapathi Murugan and his team, Hundreds of sculptors from across the state carved stone to raise the memorial without taking a fee, according to Nedumaran, A beautiful stone sculpture dedicated to Tamil Pavai (Tamil Mother) holding a lamp commemorating the people who lost their lives at Mullivaikal, constitutes the central part of the memorial, The statue carved out of a single stone weighs more than 60 tonnes and is mounted on a 15 feet pedestal, The Pavai is representative of the best of Tamil womanhood, culture, and ethos, Beneath the Tamil Mother Goddess statue, soil which is blood soaked from Mullivaikal kept in two glass vessels, Pupils pay respect to the glass vessel to honour the sacrifice made by Eelam people and Eelam freedom fighters, Two friezes, each 55 feet long and 10 feet tall, stand on either side of the Pavai, One of them showcases the 20 young men in Tamil Nadu such as Abdul Rahoof, Muthukumaran, Murugadasan, Pallapatti, Ravi who had self immolated in support of Tamil Eelam, The other frieze represents the people who had died during
    the fourth Eelam war.
  21. Thanjapureeswarar Shiva Temple Aanandavalli Amman Temple
    The main Tower of Thanjapureeswarar temple has 3 stages, This is one of the rarest temples facing westward, After slaying Tharagan, Goddess Durga combined with the God and gave serene appearance to all Rishis, This temple was built before Brahadeswara temple, It is believed that Brahadeswara temple was built only after worshipping this God, This temple is one among the 88 temples which comes under the Thanjavur Palace Management Committee, Kuberan was the ruler of Srilanka, During his rule, he lost all his property and reign to Ravanan, So he worshipped Thanjapureeswarar to recover Srilanka, It was believed that Kuberan got all his treasures on new moon day in the month of October, So every year in the month of October on new moon day, Kubera Yagna is done.
  22. Nisambasoothani, Vadapathragali Amman Temple
    The Nisumba Soodhani temple is situated in Thanjavur town, The temple is much older than the great Tanjore big temple, This is built by Vijayalaya Chola after his
    victory over Pandiyas in Thirupurampiyam war, (The great Tamil writer Kalki, in his master piece “Ponniyin Selvan”, refers Thirupurampiyam War as comparable to “Battle of Waterloo” or “Battle of Panipet” in the history) The deity in this temple is ferocious form of Goddess Durga, She is very powerful with eight hands and in the pose of killing Nisumban (Asura), The furious face and eyes of the deity are remarkable, The Chola kings had a habit of worshipping her before going to the war and they believed Nisumba Soodhani as a goddess of victory, This temple is also called as Vada Badrakaali or Ragukaala Kali Kovil, The sad state of this temple is, many people living nearby doesn’t aware of the historical importance of this temple,This temple is also referred many times in the historical novel called “Udaiyar” by tamil writer Balakumaran, The Udaiyar novel mainly describes about the Great Raja Raja chola and how he constructed the Tanjore big temple.
  23. Sri Vasishteswarar Temple
    Vasishteswarar temple is situated in the village “Thittai” near Thanjavur, As the village is situated south of the Cauvery river, it is also called “Thenkudi Thittai”,
    The presiding deity is Swayambootheswarar and the Goddess, Ulaganayaki, As the main deity is a Swayambu Lingam he got the name “Swayambootheswarar”, The main deity is also called as Vasishteswarar as he was worshipped here by Saint Vasishtar, Another special here is that the “Guru Bhagavan” has a separate Sannidhi with a separate Vimana inside the temple complex, located between Vasishteswarar and Loganayaki Sannidhis, Even in the Gurusthalam Aalangudi, one can see that Dhakshinamurthy facing South in the Praakaaram is worshipped as Guru, This is the only place where you can see Guru Bhagavan who is the Raja Guru, in standing posture with 4 hands holding his weapons and a book, Chitra Pournami and Guru Peyarchi are most important festivals of the temple, The temple is counted as one of the temples built on the banks of
    River Kaveri.
  24. Brahmasira Kandeeswarar Kovil, Thiru Kandiyur
    The temple is located 21 km away from Kumbakonam on the Kumbakonam- Tiruvaiyaru- Tanjore road, The temple is 2 km away from Tiruvaiyaru, Kandeeswarar has a five tiered rajagopuram and a west facing sanctum, The sanctum lies axil to the temple gateway and the flag staff, which is located after the gopuram in the second precinct, The shrine of Ambal is south facing and she is sported in standing posture, There are shrines of Vinayagar, Murugan with Valli & Deivanai, Mahalakshmi and Vishnu Durgai, The images of Brahma, Lingodhbhavar and Dakshinamurthy are located in the planks around the sanctum.
